Starting with the first successful kidney transplantation in 1975,the organ and tissue transplantation works have been continuously developing.The first organ transplantation in Turkey was made by Prof .Dr. Mehmet Haberal,the Founder of Başkent University Hospitals.
Today,especially heart,lungs,liver ,kidneys,cornea,pancreas and intestines can be transplanted.
At Başkent University Hospitals kidney,liver,heart and cornea transplants are successfully performed with high success rate.The University has a special Organ and Tissue Transplantation Center in Ankara and experienced scholars have been carrying out many transplantation operations at this center.Up to present more than 400 liver transplantations and more than 2000 kidney transplantations have been carried out at this center alone.
